Europe 2019

Summer has rolled around again, and after some hasty last minute planning & packing, our 2019 adventure has begun! The Cali has been given some interior & exterior TLC over the past week (the paint work is beading heaven!) and is all packed up – I’m a bit worried that we’ve become too efficient with our packing as there are some empty spaces here and there.

Goodbye Cavan, watch out mainland Europe!

A big change to our usual proceedings is the new ferry. Irish Ferries’ Oscar Wilde no longer sails from Rosslare, instead we catch the WB Yeats from Dublin. For those of you taking this route in future, in case it should crop up, you can buy milk in a petrol station in Dublin port or in the restaurant on board the ferry!

The WB Yeats is a big improvement on poor old Oscar Wilde, beginning the minute you drive on board – no more knobbly, rivets to maneuver your tyres across and gone are the days of parking door to door and squeezing and scraping between vehicles.

We booked a 2 star cabin with 4 bunks and it was very good, complete with a great shower! Best of all, the food on board is a huge improvement and €38 got dinner for 4 of us.

We were wrecked by the time we boarded so we retired early.

We hadn’t a clue where we were headed, so a quick consultation with our trusty European road atlas and we’ve decided to head south-ish, maybe east! Monaco looks good! We disembarked at 12:00, an hour later than anticipated due to windy weather last night, and hit the road. Aidan drove today, over 600km, and we’ve found ourselves a spot by the river Loire in Nevers for the night, about 5km from a little village called Magny Cours. Wonder if there’s anything good to see there 🙃 We’ll check it out in the morning!

‘Night.
